Last weekend my wife and I rode down to Lake Okeechobee on route U.S. 441 which runs down the center of Florida. It was a nice lightly traveled two lane black top road through woods and ranches, very desolate and peaceful. It was a pleasant ride down but the next day riding back home (Merritt Island)it was so hot we stopped several times to pour water in our helmets and on our jackets (which brings me to my subject). For most of our riding we wear Joe Rocket Phoenix model mesh jackets. Normally they are cool enough since the wind goes right through. When it is really hot we pour water on the sleeves and front of the jacket it has an immediate cooling effect, almost chilling. This lowers our core temp and seems to keep us cool for about an hour. The mesh is a poly material so is not bothered by the water. It also helps to pour water on our jeans, but usually is not necessary. If you ride in the heat give it a try.
